National Botanic Gardens
On Saturday Nov 19th, we were glad to be invited by Lorcan Scott, the Wildlife Officer at the Heritage Council, in partnership with Teagasc and the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland (OPW – Office of Public Works), to organise a trip for Syrian families to visit the National Botanic Gardens and participate in their events and activities as part of National Science Week 2022.
Participants were welcomed and guested by Lorcan the coordinator of the Heritage Council Wildlife Sanctuary project, then were guided to Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture, National Botanic Gardens were they met Carol Melody, Lecturer at Teagasc and the organiser of the events, interesting chat was happened during the lunch, tea & Café provided by Teagasc. Families learned all about healthy soils & enjoyed lessons on traditional plant-based crafts, extracting native seeds & how to make Oak Gall ink.
A big thank you to Lorcan Scott for the support he always provides to families who are connected to SiN&H initiative Thanks to Teagasc & Dr. Carol Melody, for the lovely information and the wonderful time was had by all including meeting the students of Teagasc the lovely stories were shared with all in two direction. We would also like to thank Dr Colin Kelleher (National Botanic Gardens, OPW), who arranged for many of the events around National Science Week 2022, at the Botanic Gardens
